Colle Moro: Pecorino, Trebbiano and Montepulciano d'Abruzzo
Perugia, Italy
Thursday, May 19th, 2016
Pecorino, Trebbiano d'Abruzzo, Montepulciano, Muscat Blanc, Moscato di Frisa and Moscato Saraceno. These are the grapes which talked about Colle Moro wines and protagonists of DiWineTaste Event of May 2016. To the evening took part Mr. Francesco Labbrozzi - chairman of Colle Moro winery - and wine maker dr. Vincenzo Marchioli, whom talked about the history of the winery, the characteristics of the territory and the grapes used for the production of their wines. The event started with Pecorino Alianto 2015, produced with the homonymous white berried grape which, in recent times, is finally getting the favor of both producers and consumes. Having a direct and crisp character, this Pecorino has been the right introduction to the potentials of Colle Moro wines. The event continued with Trebbiano d'Abruzzo Calea 2015, having a weaker body however with an immediate agreeableness and, like the previous wine, produced in steel tanks. The third wine of the evening has been Cerasuolo d'Abruzzo Club 2015, the famous rose wine produced with Montepulciano grape and among the most representative wines of the region, perfect example of the well known wine making versatility of this magnificent red grape. The event continued with Montepulciano d'Abruzzo Club 2015, produced for an immediate consumption and aged in steel tanks, a wine of remarkable personality and having a frank character, however of good agreeableness. The glasses have then been filled with the fifth wine of the evening, Montepulciano d'Abruzzo Mila 2011, aged in barrique, having a very good texture and charming roundness, however keeping the well known character of the abruzzese red grape associated to elegance. The event ended with Splendore, a sparkling wine produced in closed tank with Moscato di Frisa - a local clone of Muscat Blanc - and Moscato Saraceno, with a gentle bubble and explosive aromatic exuberance joined to a pleasing sweetness. The sensorial tasting of wines has been conducted by Antonello Biancalana - DiWineTaste chief editor - who has also created, as usual, the dishes paired to the wines of the event.
