A journey to the discovery of three beer producing countries of Europe - Italy, Austria and Belgium - expressed by specific styles, with beers selected in order to understand the differences between the brewing techniques. To the event took part Paolo Bianconi, commercial manager for Umbria of the beer brands tasted during the event - produced by Da Pian, Zoogami and Lupulus - introducing participants to the specific quality of each beer. The sensorial tasting of beers has been conducted by Antonello Biancalana, by illustrating each brewing style and the production techniques, as well as illustrating the types of malt and hops and their contribution to the sensorial profile. The event had the goal of illustrating some brewing styles, while trying to understand the production techniques and organoleptic characteristics. The first part of the evening has been dedicated to beers produced with bottom fermenting yeast belonging to the Saccharomyces Carlsbergensis strain, expressed by Pilsner, Lager and Bock styles and by the types of hops used in these beers, in particular Saaz. The second part has been dedicated to top fermenting beers, produced with yeast belonging to Saccharomyces Cerevisiae strain. The styles used for understanding this type of beers were a Strong Pale Ale and a Belgian Tripel Ale, both refermented in bottle. The five beers have been paired to dishes expressly created by Antonello Biancalana - with the support of Locanda dei Golosi Chefs - who also introduced participants to the main principles of pairing beer with food. This event ended 2010/2011 season of DiWineTaste events which will resume, after the usual summer break, in September with the new 2011/2012 season.
