Donatella Cinelli Colombini and Casato Prime Donne's Brunello di Montalcino
Perugia, Italy
Thursday, December 13th, 2012
The first part of the season 2012/2013 of DiWineTaste events ended with a very special guest, a figure of primary importance in the world of Italian wine and of Montalcino: Donatella Cinelli Colombini. The "First Lady" of the great wine of Tuscany, successfully runs two winery, in which work women only - Fattoria del Colle of Trequanda and Casato Prime Donne of Montalcino - first case in Italy of a winery completely run by women. To the event took part Ms. Donatella Cinelli Colombini - accompanied by her husband Mr. Carlo Gardini - who introduced participants to the history of her wineries, of the territories of Montalcino and Orcia, as well as the job done in the vineyard by wine maker Valérie Lavigne, capable of having introduced a new vision in the vineyard and in the winery. The event started with the wines produced at Fattoria del Colle, of which, the first one has been Orcia Rosso Leone Rosso 2010, made from Sangiovese and Merlot grape, a wine having the role of introducing the main protagonist of the evening: Sangiovese grape. The event continued with one of the most representative wines produced at the winery of Trequanda - Orcia Rosso Cenerentola 2008 - in which Sangiovese meets the local Foglia Tonda grape, giving a wine of elegant harmony, in excellent balance between crispness and roundness. The part dedicated to the wines of Fattoria del Colle ended with il Drago e le Otto Colombe 2007 - produced with Sangiovese, Merlot and Sagrantino in equal parts - a wine of remarkable wine making interest, in which the three grapes keep all of their expressive character. It is then the turn of the production of Casato Prime Donne, therefore three wines dedicated to the excellence of Italian enology and of Tuscany: Brunello di Montalcino. There have been three Brunellos tasted in the course of the event, including Brunello di Montalcino "future" Reserve 2007, an absolute preview tasting reserved to the participants of this DiWineTaste event. Also the first Brunello di Montalcino of the evening was produced in 2007: a wine with an excellent balance between the typical crispness of Sangiovese and the roundness of ripe tannins, with the result of a remarkable agreeability. It is then the turn of the preview tasting for this event, the Reserve 2007 which will be officially commercialized, as provided by the law, on January 1st, 2013. A magnificent wine, a Brunello di Montalcino expressing power as well as a remarkable elegance, a wine of which will certainly be talked about for a long time. The evening ended with the tasting of Brunello di Montalcino Riserva 2005: another magnificent example of the excellent job done by Donatella Cinelli Colombini, a well aged wine of impeccable elegance. At the end of the event, Locanda dei Golosi and its staff - led by Emiliano Buccolini, Roberto Bellezza and Manuele Gentili - have greeted participants with a suggestive "torch walk", an occasion for season's greeting to all of our readers, to end 2012 and wishing a happy 2013 with new and prestigious events. The event has been conducted, as well as the creation of the dishes of the evening, by Antonello Biancalana, who also conducted - as usual - the tasting of the six wines.
