After four years, a new event with Umani Ronchi winery and its wines, a new evening dedicated to Verdicchio and Montepulciano, ended with Maximo, the famous wine made from grapes affected by noble rot, a wine created by Giacomo Tachis, indisputable and unequaled father of modern Italian enology. To the evening took part dr. Stefano Bernetti - member of the family owner of Umani Ronchi for more than 50 years - who introduced the history of the famous winery from Marches, also remembering the job Giacomo Tachis did at Umani Ronchi during the 13 years he worked for this winery. This is the only winery of the Adriatic side of Italy with which Giacomo Tachis has worked in the course of his extraordinary career: for Umani Ronchi the great piedmontese wine maker gave life to two wines which strongly contributed to the rebirth of Italian enology, still today celebrated everywhere: Pelago and Maximo. The evening has also been the occasion to understand the wines of Umani Ronchi's territory, in particular Verdicchio dei Castelli di Jesi and Rosso Conero. The evening started with Metodo Classico Extra Brut 2011 - the new wine made by Umani Ronchi with a limited production - from Chardonnay and Verdicchio grapes in equal parts, refermented for 30 months in bottle: a Classic Method with a pleasing crispness and body, in which Verdicchio strongly contributes to the character. It is then the turn of Verdicchio dei Castelli di Jesi Classico Superiore Casal di Serra 2012 - with this vintage celebrating the prestigious goal of thirty harvesting - among the most important wines of the territory, having a remarkable crispness and agreeability, a Verdicchio expressing elegance and finesse. Also Rosso Conero San Lorenzo 2011celebrates with this vintage its thirty harvesting, a wine telling the qualities of Montepulciano, a grape being underrated for a long time and having, in the Conero area, a particular elegance associated to the typical character of this important Italian red variety. Conero Riserva Cumaro 2009 has certainly been one of the most appreciated wines of the evening, also in this case produced with Montepulciano grape, a wine of great personality having power and elegance, as well as a wonderful bouquet, a wine created in 1985 thanks to the talent of Giacomo Tachis, who brought the Conero territory among the most important wine areas of Italy. Also the last wine of the event is a son of Giacomo Tachis - Maximo 2010 - among the few real Italian wines completely produced with grapes enriched by Botrytis Cinerea: a masterpiece of balance and elegance, as well as of refined sweetness and class. The tasting of wines and the creation of dishes paired to the wines has been done by Antonello Biancalana, DiWineTaste chief editor.
